How can I remake the American flag?

In an art project for school, we will be using acrylics to recreate the American flag. What are possible ideas for the new flag? Former projects use Superman, Mickey Mouse, eagles, hamburgers (fast food nation!!), etc.
What subject can I use to make something unique for this?
This is an assignment in my art class. Am I supposed to tell my teacher "We can't do this project its unpatriotic"? Tell my teacher for me then

this project is totally up to interruption and i don't think it has anything to do with being unpatriotic at all. What do you think America stands for? The flag is nothing but symbols, everything on the flag is from the stars and stripes to the # of them and the color. I would find color meaning website and figure what color you think america stands for today.

like in china red is luck.
white is like our black (being dark, death, bad topics, ect...)

but you can also make the flag a square, triangle, hexagon.
shapes, who said the flag has to be rectangle. Its all about how you see it. these are the kind of assignments that I love. personally. But I would honestly look at the symbolism in the flag not just what you see. everything is there for a reason.
